Anybody who has seen my last few articles ‘Am I the only one who is NOT a fan of Section Boyz’ & ‘Why our scene is failing’, will know i’m not very happy with the direction the scene is going in musically. For me the UK used to boast superior penmanship in a time where the US had started to deteriorate with their’s.
I feel like now there has been a shift and we are starting to follow the US trend of pushing the less gifted while marginalizing the special. That’s why the emergence of Belly Squad is so vital. Not only are they versatile, they construct well written songs packed with unique melodies and a few well place punchlines.
I first heard of Belly Squad through Young Maxx’s appearance on the ‘Catch Me In Dichino’ record which was more like the type of hit Sneakbo is well known for. Then came ‘Banana’ which was a very catchy Afrobeats track. I was surprised when they then released a Grime song by the name of ‘UK Sound’. By this time I was already extremely impressed with not only their work rate, but the quality of the music and the support they’d amassed.
I must say I’m disappointed that they aren’t of a bigger stature, because they most definitely deserve to be and this new track ‘Deja Vu’ has solidified that point. These guys can’t put a foot wrong at the minute and I look forward to seeing how 2016 treats them. Hopefully it’ll be their rise to fame and also the point where everybody in the scene starts to value originality once again. This song is only a representation of why we need them in the scene.
I invite you to check out their new tune ‘Deja Vu’ below, & follow the boys on social media too.
Peace & Love!
