Now I think we all knew a new Chip beef was brewing when Yungen addressed Munk’s MOBO comments on his grime song ‘Comfy’. Even though I wouldn’t class it as a diss, Chip has a chip on his shoulder at the minute and is shutting down anything that comes his way. After the Bugzy Malone beef, it had me questioning if Chip could actually lose a battle, being that he hasn’t lost one since he was a teenager.
After the two MC’s traded tweets on Twitter it all died down, that was till Chip’s ‘One Take’ was released recently. I may be biased being from Tottenham but I couldn’t help but question what Yungen had got himself into.
While Yungen is a very competent Rapper and can be considered one of the best in his lane, He is by no means a Grime MC and doesn’t have the delivery to compete. Having said that, his reply, ‘Punk’ surprised me hugely. Although the delivery at times was lacking, his bars carried the song to make it an extremely good diss track. I question the facts behind some of the claims but none the less it was great content. Tinie Tempah’s surprise appearance also added to the validity of the track.
In true Chip fashion, he replied the next afternoon with the fire track ‘Michelle Riddim’. I have to say the best part of the diss was towards Tinie so I think Yungen wins that round by default.
I have to admit Yungen had surpassed my expectations in the clash and I definitely have more respect for him as a complete artist as opposed to just a punchline rapper. Oopsy Daisy Riddim took the 2nd round of the disses for me.
While most stayed up till 9am for Chip’s reply, I opted to listen to it the next morning. After hearing it, I can understand why people waited up. Chip is definitely fearless at the minute and is a lot more honest in this beef. I really don’t see how Yungen can come back in this rap battle, I’d love to see him put this behind him and stick to music as he made the wrong choice with this clash.
Between the 5 disses we’ve heard, I think Chip definitely edges it. With every beef, Munk rises to the challenge and with more formidable opponents each time. I can see how people opted for Yungen in the clash as he put up a good fight and Chip is the 50 Cent of the grime scene right now (definitely the villain).
What do you all think of the clash so far? Can Yungen come back hard in a 3rd reply? Should he just focus on his music now he has a deal? Furthermore, who do you think is winning? Let me know your thoughts.
Peace & Love
