Firstly I want to start by saying I am happy for the success these young men have achieved. They’ve come from a place similar to where most of us grew up and have made something of themselves. Having said that and at the risk of sounding like a ‘hater’, I am just not a fan of the Section Boyz. I can’t seem to relate to them. They represent where we came from but at the same time represent the mentalities of the people I wish to get away from.
I am one of those people that doesn’t enjoy ‘road rap’ unless its articulated very eloquently or in a unique manner. I’m a fan of Blade Brown, Gunna Dee, Dun D and those sorts of artists that seem to tell the same story creatively, 10 different ways. Well for this new generation it seems to be the opposite. They’re not very lyrical and all share the same cadences, which leads me to my question: Am I the only one who is NOT a fan of the Section Boyz? I mean, my 15 year old brother is a huge fan. He’s always showing me the latest Section Boyz or 67 tracks and I just stare at him in amazement. I wonder what he sees in the music that i’m missing.
I just can’t wait for this style of music to pass and we start getting back to real storytelling and lyricism. Let me know your thoughts on Section Boyz and this bubbling generation of road rap.
Peace & Love!
